Final Results: 3 months

Men are not immune to the aging process. Sagging neck skin, jowls along the lower jaw, and deep facial folds can add years to your appearance, even when you feel at your prime. If this describes you, a facelift can help.  This classic procedure lifts and firms sagging tissues in the lower face and neck, removing excess skin and smoothing facial folds to refresh

As a board certified plastic surgeon with more than 20 years of experience, Dr. Gunnar Thors has helped many men in Algonquin and northwest Illinois address signs of aging, restore a more youthful facial profile, and feel more confident in their appearance. He understands that men in particular want results that look completely natural and not like surgery, and he uses techniques that restore a more youthful version of a man’s face without changing his unique features.

Why consider a facelift?

If you are bothered by any of the following signs of aging, a facelift may be a great option to help you look as young as you feel:

  • Sagging, heavy jowls along the lower jaw
  • Loose skin hanging below the chin
  • Lack of definition in the jawline due to skin laxity
  • Deep creases along either side of the nose and mouth

Dr. Thors individualizes each patient’s treatment plan to address his concerns and achieve his goals. At your consultation, the two of you will discuss your options and decide if a facelift or another procedure is the best option for you.

About male facelift surgery in Algonquin

A facelift is an outpatient procedure, performed using general anesthesia. Dr. Thors uses advanced facelift techniques that lift and firm underlying facial tissues without over-tightening the skin:

  • Incisions are located in the natural folds at the base of the ear, behind the hairline, and/or underneath the chin
  • The skin is separated from the underlying fat, muscle and connective tissue
  • Underlying tissues are lifted and remodeled into a more youthful position
  • The skin is gently draped back over the repositioned tissues to retain natural skin tension
  • Excess skin is removed to eliminate sagging, smooth deep creases,  and create smooth, refined face and neck contours

Recovering after a facelift

You will go home shortly after surgery and will be able to get up and walk around the same day as surgery, and light activity is permitted the next day, although you should refrain from driving until you are no longer taking pain medication. Your face will feel tight for several weeks, and mild to moderate bruising and swelling are typical.

Many of Dr. Thors’ male facelift patients return to work within 7 to 10 days after surgery. Bruising and swelling should be imperceptible to others within 2 weeks of surgery.

Not ready for a facelift? Non-surgical options for refreshing your look

If you would rather not have surgery at this time, Dr. Thors offers a number of non-surgical options to reduce wrinkles, restore lost facial volume, and tighten lax skin on the face and neck, such as BOTOX injections, dermal fillers, and ultrasonic skin rejuvenation. He will be happy to discuss these options during your consultation.
