Chin augmentation can improve harmony among your facial features, adding graceful definition to the jawline and creating a more elegant facial profile. Keep reading to learn more about this relatively easy way to enhance your natural beauty and confidence.
Have you always felt that your neck or jawline lacked definition, or that your face appears too round due to a weak or recessed chin? Chin augmentation surgery may be a great option for you.
Chin augmentation enhances the basic structure of your face, adding structure to weaker features to bring a more aesthetically pleasing sense of harmony to your face as a whole. Algonquin board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Gunnar Thors uses carefully styled implants to create a more attractive and harmonious balance to your face.
A recessive chin can make the mouth appear to turn down at the corners, cause the jawline to lack definition, or make your nose or other features appear too large. By inserting a custom-fitted chin implant, Dr. Thors can bring your chin into better proportion with the rest of your features, helping to restore facial harmony and enhance your appearance. In certain patients, chin implants can also improve the appearance of jowls and lax tissue in the neck.
Patients in the Algonquin and the greater Chicago area have sought chin augmentation from Dr. Thors for some of the following reasons:
During your consultation, Dr. Thors will take the time to answer your questions, listen to your concerns, and explain the procedure options that are best suited to achieving your goals. Dr. Thors focuses on providing the safest, most effective procedure to meet your goals for your appearance. He will help you choose a chin implant that will achieve your desired improvements and provide a result that looks and feels natural.
Many patients choose to combine chin augmentation with other procedures, such as nose reshaping or neck liposuction, to further refine facial features. Dr. Thors can discuss these options with you during your consultation and help you understand how combining procedures may enhance your results.

Chin augmentation is performed as an outpatient procedure, using local or general anesthesia, depending on your needs. Dr. Thors will make a small incision either inside the mouth, so there will be no visible scarring, or underneath the chin. The procedure typically takes less than 45 minutes to complete.
Mild to moderate swelling and tenderness around the jawbone and at the incision site is common for several days following chin augmentation, but pain is rarely an issue. Your chin will be bandaged for support during the initial healing process, and Dr. Thors may instruct you to eat a liquid-only diet for the first 1 to 2 days. Patients typically return to sedentary work within 3 days after surgery.
Chin augmentation is intended to be a one-time procedure, and your improved facial profile should last for many years to come.
