A weak or recessed chin can detract from facial harmony, causing the jawline to lack definition. By inserting a custom-fit chin implant, Dr. Gunnar Thors can add strength to the jawline, refining a man's appearance and bringing facial features into attractive proportion.
A strong, well-defined jawline is a naturally masculine feature. However, a chin that is recessed or “weak” in relation to other facial features can take away from facial harmony, causing a man to feel less attractive–and less confident–than he may like. Through a quite straightforward procedure, a chin augmentation can improve a weak chin, adding definition that refines a man’s overall appearance.
If you are unhappy with the shape of your chin, neck or jawline due to a weak chin, chin augmentation can add strength to your chin and improve balance among your features. A chin implant is a hard silicone, biocompatible device that is fit around your existing chin bone. Dr. Thors can help you choose an implant that complements the shape of your chin to achieve a natural look, helping to:
Dr. Thors performs chin augmentation as an outpatient procedure at Midwest Plastic Surgery Specialists, using local or general anesthesia, depending on your needs. The incision to insert the implant is typically placed inside the mouth, so there will be no visible scarring. The procedure typically takes less than 45 minutes to complete. Following surgery, you can go home to continue your recovery.
Chin augmentation is commonly combined with other facial procedures, such as rhinoplasty or neck liposuction, to enhance the results. If you would also like to improve the shape or size of your nose or reduce a “double chin,” Dr. Thors will discuss these options with you during your personal consultation.
Pain is rarely an issue after a chin augmentation, although you may feel some tenderness around the jawbone and at the incision site for several days. The chin will be bandaged for support for several days after surgery, and Dr. Thors may instruct you to eat a liquid-only diet for a day or two. Swelling and bruising are usually minimal, and most of our male chin augmentation patients return to work within 3 days after surgery.
Chin implants are very durable, and chin augmentation results can last indefinitely, allowing you to enjoy your improved facial contours for a lifetime.
