Think tummy tuck surgery is only for women? Think again. Board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Gunnar Thors has helped many men shed excess, sagging skin and tighten loose ab muscles to restore a firmer, more attractive midsection with this classic plastic surgery procedure.
Weight loss or the natural aging process can negatively impact a man’s abdominal shape, leaving behind sagging skin and slack, protruding muscles. Abdominoplasty, commonly known as tummy tuck surgery, removes excess, sagging skin and tightens underlying muscles to restore a firmer, flatter, and more attractive abdominal contour.
If you are bothered by excess, sagging skin gathered around your belly, abdominoplasty may be a great option to help you regain a smoother, firmer abdominal shape. A tummy tuck can also tighten abdominal muscles that have stretched due to significant weight fluctuations, aging, or genetics.
In the hands of an experienced, board certified plastic surgeon, abdominoplasty can improve your appearance and quality of life in a number of ways:
A tummy tuck is one of the most effective procedures to address loose, sagging skin and tighten slack muscles on the belly. However, abdominoplasty will not reduce a large amount of fat and is not a weight loss procedure. You are likely a good tummy tuck candidate if:
If stubborn fat deposits on your belly or flanks are a concern, liposuction is an option to consider. At your consultation, Dr. Thors will help you decide the best procedure to achieve your goals.
Dr. Thors usually performs tummy tuck surgery as an outpatient procedure, although for more extensive or combined procedures (such as a body lift), a short inpatient stay may be required. General anesthesia is provided by a licensed, board certified anesthesiology team.
Through a linear incision placed just above the pubic bone, Dr. Thors will tighten the abdominal muscles using permanent sutures and remove excess skin and fat to restore a smooth, natural contour to the abdomen. Depending on your needs, he may relocate the naval so that it sits naturally on your belly with your newly improved contours.
Following surgery, you will be placed in a compression garment to provide support. Drains may also be inserted to relieve excess swelling. Post-operative discomfort typically peaks about 3 to 5 days after surgery, and then subsides noticeably more each day. Expect a minimum of 2 weeks away from work; you will need more time off if you have a physically demanding job. Exercise can be resumed gradually beginning 6 to 8 weeks after surgery.
Abdominoplasty with Dr. Thors can achieve dramatic improvements in body contours that are intended to last for many years. Maintaining a stable weight is key, as significant weight fluctuations after surgery can negatively affect your results. Dr. Thors places tummy tuck incisions as low on the trunk as possible, so resulting scars can be concealed easily beneath briefs or a swimsuit.
If you are bothered by excess, sagging skin or a loss of abdominal tone that won’t respond to diet or exercise, Dr. Thors can help you address these issues and feel more confident in your appearance. Please contact us today to schedule your personal consultation with Dr. Thors.
