As we age, skin loses elasticity and facial volume decreases. These changes are responsible for most of the undesirable signs of aging: fine lines, creases and folds around the nose and mouth, sunken, deflated cheeks, and appearance of thinning lips and lip lines. Juvéderm injections can help you correct many of these visible signs of aging by restoring lost facial volume, smoother skin, and more youthful facial contours.
Juvéderm is a soft, gel-like filler made from hyaluronic acid, a natural substance found in our body that improves skin elasticity, resulting in a smooth and supple appearance. When injected beneath the skin, Juvéderm helps plump up facial tissues, restore contours, and smooth bothersome lines and wrinkles. When administered by an experienced physician, treatment is quick, convenient, and effective:
Juvéderm generally lasts 9 to 12 months, sometimes longer. However, the body will eventually absorb and diminish the initial effect. Massaging the area may speed absorption as well. If you wish to minimize the effect of an injected filler, injections of an enzyme called hyaluronidase can be used cautiously to break down the hyaluronic acid in Juvéderm (or or similar fillers).
When performed by an experienced, qualified provider, adverse reactions to FDA approved facial fillers such as Juvéderm are extremely rare. Most adverse events are related to errant or injudicious injections, made by an inexperienced injector. In rare instances these can cause permanent defects or injury. Discuss the risks of filler injections with your treating doctor, and always choose a qualified provider such as a board certified plastic surgeon for treatment.
