Minimize blemishes & boost your youthful glow with zero downtime

Even with good attention to skin care, fine lines, acne scars, sun damage and other blemishes eventually make their way onto the skin’s surface. These imperfections can be difficult to conceal with makeup, but there is a solution to diminish them—microneedling.

By prompting your skin’s natural healing processes, microneedling can reduce fine lines, sun damage, scars, and stretch marks and help your skin look and feel smoother and younger. If you’ve been hesitant to try laser resurfacing or peels because of the downtime or potential side effects, keep reading—microneedling is safe and effective for all skin types and has minimal downtime.

How microneedling works to improve your skin

Microneedling is a state-of-the-art treatment that works by making a series of temporary, invisible piercings or “micro-injuries” in the skin. This creates just enough of an injury to prompt skin cell regeneration and stimulate collagen and elastin production.

At Dr. Thors practice in Algonquin, we use a microneedling device that offers superb and predictable results. The tiny needles in the device tip can be adjusted to the precise depth needed to address your specific skin concerns.

Because microneedling harnesses your skin’s natural healing ability to renew the skin’s surface—rather than harsh abrasives, heat or chemicals—it is safe for any skin type. Treatment is virtually painless, and has mimimal downtime.

What can microneedling treat?

Microneedling is one of our most versatile skin resurfacing procedures and can be used nearly anywhere on the face, hands or body. Among the skin imperfections we can treat using microneedling:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Surgical scars or acne scars
  • Stretch marks
  • Sun damage and hyperpigmentation
  • Mild skin sagging skin
  • Roughness and texture problems

What to expect with microneedling treatments

When you arrive at our office, we will first go over your concerns and goals to ensure you get the results you desire from your treatment. Depending on your needs, we may apply a topical anesthetic to ensure your comfort throughout treatment. When you are ready, your provider will apply the microneedling  tip to the skin’s surface and glide the device smoothly over the skin.

Microneedling treatments typically takes 30 minutes or less, and you can return to normal activity immediately afterwards. Other than mild, temporary redness in the treatment area, microneedling typically has no side effects. However, it is essential to keep the treated area protected from the sun for several days after treatment.

How many treatments will I need to see results?

Most patients notice improvements in skin texture and appearance within a week or two of their first treatment. It stimulates collagen, and the results get better with each additional treatment.

At your consultation, we will discuss the number of treatments you will likely need to achieve your desired results. Typically, 4 to 5 treatments, spaced 1 month apart, are needed to treat mild to moderate signs of aging and improve overall skin tone. Additional treatments may be needed to obtain optimal results or to reduce scars, stretch marks, or more progressive signs of aging. Ask us about our Mocroneedling packages.
