Breast Lift Surgery in the greater Chicago area

Pregnancy, weight loss, and the natural aging process can lead to stretched, sagging skin, a lack of shape, or a "deflated" appearance. If you aren't happy with the way your breasts look or feel, breast lift surgery with Dr. Thors may be a great option to restore a firmer, perkier breast contour that improves your proportions and lifts your self-confidence.

Why consider breast lift surgery?

A breast lift improves breast contours by removing excess skin and reshaping the remaining tissue. If you are bothered by sagging breast tissue, nipples that droop downward, or a loss of firmness, a breast lift can help you get perkier, more lifted breasts that better flatter your figure.

In the Algonquin and the greater Chicago area, women have breast lift surgery with Dr. Thors for many reasons:

  • Correct sagging due to aging, pregnancy, or weight loss
  • Restore a higher breast contour and profile
  • Reduce the size of the areola
  • Improve self esteem and confidence
  • Help bras fit more comfortably

Your breast lift begins with a personal consultation

During your personal consultation, you and Dr. Thors will discuss your personal goals. He will listen carefully to your concerns and discuss all the details of breast lift surgery with you.

There are a number of options to consider, such as whether or not you will have breast implants placed at the same time. As a board certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Thors provides the highest levels of experience, training and care, while using safe and proven surgical techniques. He will always work as a partner with you to create the result you seek.

Is a breast lift the right option for me?

Breast lift surgery alone does not enlarge the breasts. If you want large, lifted breasts, Dr. Thors can combine a breast lift with breast augmentation. Some of Dr. Thors’s patients consider this option when their breasts have lost volume due to aging, pregnancy, breastfeeding, or significant weight loss.

If you have uncomfortably large breasts, and you are considering breast reduction surgery, Dr. Thors will perform a breast lift at the same time to achieve the most aesthetically pleasing breast shape possible.

Breast lift incision options

Dr. Thors will determine the appropriate breast lift incision type for your needs based on the amount of tissue that needs to be removed. All breast lift incisions result in scars that can be easily concealed beneath a bra or swimsuit. Incision types Dr. Thors may use include:

  • Crescent Lift. This involves a semi-circle shaped incision around the upper edge of the areola. It is best for patients who need a very minor amount of lifting.
  • Peri-areolar Lift. A circular incision is made around the natural edge of the areola. Through this incision, Dr. Thors can remove excess skin, raise breast position, and improve shape to achieve a modest breast lift.
  • Lollipop Lift. Also called a vertical breast lift, this option includes a peri-areolar incision as well as a linear incision running from the bottom of the areola to the crease beneath the breast (inframammary fold). The lollipop lift achieves a more dramatic lift for patients who wish to correct moderate to severe sagging.
  • Anchor Lift. Also called an inverted-T lift, the anchor lift is similar to the lollipop incision, but adds a horizontal incision hidden in the natural crease beneath the breast. This is the longest breast lift incision, but allows for the most dramatic lifting and reshaping. Dr. Thors will typically use this technique for patients who have significant sagging to correct or desire a breast reduction at the same time as a breast lift.

During your consultation, Dr. Thors will discuss your incision options with you in detail.

About breast lift surgery & recovery

Dr. Thors performs breast lift surgery in an accredited surgical facility, typically as an outpatient procedure using general anesthesia. Incisions are tailored to the specific lift procedure required and incision lines generally follow the natural lines of the breast. Resulting scars can be easily concealed beneath a bra or swimsuit. Other details include:

  • Length of surgery: 3 to 5 hours.
  • Side Effects: Temporary bruising, swelling, discomfort, numbness, dry breast skin.
  • Recovery: Back to work: 1 week or more. Strenuous activities: 1 month.
  • Fading of scars: Scars are permanent, but with proper care fade significantly over the course of several months to a year.
  • Duration of Results: Generally long lasting; gravity, pregnancy, aging, and weight changes may cause changes over time. Results may be enhanced when breast implants are inserted as part of the procedure.
